How are the materials organized in the library?

I found the item I want in the catalog, now how do I find it on the shelves?

Answer

We have a Children's section, Young Adult, Audiovisual Materials, Adult Fiction, Graphic Novels, Large Print Fiction and Nonfiction, New Releases, and an Adult Nonfiction and Biography section. Within each section, our fiction materials are organized alphabetically by the author's last name, then the title of the book. All of our nonfiction items are organized by the Dewey Decimal system, and our biographies are organized by the last name of the subject. Magazines and newspapers are organized by title, then most recent month/date. Our graphic novels are organized by either the author's last name or the title of the series. Our DVD movies are organized alphabetically by title, with our TV series organized by title then season number. All of our new releases are organized by most recent date as well, with the newer items placed at the top and the less recent items placed below.
